Pete Loewen

Pete is the founder and owner of Loewen and Associates, Inc. He grew up on his family’s grain production and commercial cattle feeding operation in western Kansas. Pete graduated with Cum Laude honors from Kansas State University in 1993 with a degree in Animal Sciences and Industry and jumped right into the Ag brokerage/analysis business. Pete has decades of experience in commodity brokerage, grain merchandising and Ag price risk management consulting. Grain and livestock futures market and fundamental analysis is Pete’s lifelong profession as well as passion.

Pete is a licensed broker and grain and livestock analyst. He started Loewen and Associates, Inc. in 2006 and later added Matt Hines, Doug Biswell and Tyson Loewen to the team. Focusing on building company personnel based on specialized knowledge and expertise; Matt Hines was added for his producer and commercial merchandising, logistics, basis and consulting skills, Doug Biswell for his producer consulting, basis, logistics and merchandising skills and Tyson Loewen for his knowledge of crop / livestock-related insurance products. Together, they have serviced accounts and customers from coast to coast in the US and from Canada to Mexico.

Pete resides just outside Manhattan, Kansas with his wife Jacqueline. They have two sons, Hunter and Tyson.  Hunter is a BSRN working in Cardiac OR at a hospital in Charleston, SC.  Tyson is part of the team at Loewen and Associates.

Matt Hines

Matt Hines is a licensed commodity broker specializing in grain and livestock operations as well as commercial consulting clients since 2004.  Matt graduated from Kansas State University with dual degrees in Agricultural Economics and Milling Science & Management. After graduating, he began his career as a grain merchandiser for ADM/Growmark on the Illinois River in Beardstown, Illinois. Matt then moved back to Kansas and joined 21st Century Grain Processing Cooperative as a grain merchandiser in 2001. In 2004, he obtained his series 3 commodity brokerage license and started working with Pete Loewen as a licensed broker, commercial grain consultant and grain analyst. Matt spent the next 8 years as a grain department manager and cash grain and feed merchandiser for regional cooperatives and a private trading company. 

Since 2012, Matt has been full time with Loewen and Associates primarily focusing on producer consulting, grain merchandising and commercial consulting clients. Matt resides in Holton, Kansas with his daughter and son. He has served as a board member for Kansas Farm Bureau’s VOTE FBF, Market Structures Committee Chair for American Farm Bureau Federation and on the Ag Advisory Board for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Doug Biswell

Doug is a native to the Kaw River Valley, having grown up in St Marys, Kansas. Doug graduated from Kansas State University in May of 1989 with a Degree in Business Administration. He started his business career as a loan officer for a local credit union and then moved into agriculture, working as the grain merchandiser for the Farmers Union Coop in St Marys, Kansas. Doug has been a licensed commodity futures and options broker since 1998. He has held the merchandiser position for several Kansas Coops and spent five years as a grain originator for Cargill in Topeka. He is currently the General Manager with Jackson Farmers Inc working out of the main office in Holton Kansas. Doug brings more than 28 years of commercial grain merchandising experience, trading the northeast Kansas market.

Doug joined the Loewen and Associates team in March 2009 as a risk management consultant and broker, while still maintaining his position with the Coop. Doug brings value to the Loewen team through his cash market knowledge and risk management skills. His philosophy is to strive to get to know as much about each individual customer’s operation as possible, to better help those producers manage their price risk. He, and wife reside between Rossville and Silver Lake. They are proud parents of four children as well as grandparents of two energetic grandchildren.  Three of their children have graduated from college Their youngest son is attending college in Durham North Carolina.  His family has owned a farm in Marshall county Kansas for four generations.  Doug helps the family with the risk management of that farm.

Tyson Loewen

The most recent addition to the Loewen and Associates staff, Tyson Loewen graduated with cum laude academic honors from Fort Hays State University in 2021 with a BS in Agricultural Business.  Tyson’s ties to agriculture include; working for a local farmer/rancher while in high school, as well as working at the Bar S Ranch near Paradise, Kansas through part of college.

He earned his series 3 brokerage license in February of 2022 while splitting time at the Loewen and Associates office and working for a farm/ranch east of Manhattan. In the fall of 2022, Tyson made the decision to begin working full-time in our office.  With experience in the hands-on side of production, as well as his crop / livestock insurance knowledge, Tyson strives to put himself in the customer’s shoes and to understand and advocate on behalf of what is best for each individual operation.

When Tyson isn’t working, he can be found spending time with his soon-to-be wife, in the outdoors, hiking the backcountry in the mountain states, or fishing and hunting.
